U.S. Department of State

Dr. Geeta Rao Gupta was appointed in May 2023 as the fourth Ambassador-at-Large for the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues at the U.S. Department of State

  • The US Ambassador for Global Women’s Issues Rao Gupta traveled to several European countries to discuss what the U.S. is doing to promote the rights and empowerment of women and girls across the globe. Gupta attended the Global Women Leader Voices Summit held in Madrid where she engaged in discussions on so-called gender-based violence.

  • The term is problematic as it is used to enforce the idea that denying access to abortion constitutes a form of gender-based violence. Rebecca Oas, Director of Research at C-Fam, points out that “In the context of a law or policy aimed at advancing women and girls, using GBV changes the frame of focus from the intended beneficiaries, women and girls, and shifts it to all victims of violence with a gender component.”

Emmanuele Da Ponte

Emmanuele Da Ponte joined the Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam) in the summer of 2023 as the Associate Director of Government Relations. He has two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Philosophy and History of the Social Sciences. His main focus is advising and building relationships with Congress and the United Nations to promote truly just legislation that defends and uphold human dignity and family rights.
